How does Sentai enable digital care?

Sentai is a voice-enabled digital companion that provides daily check-ins, wellbeing support, and real-time updates through a connected app. It keeps individuals safe, families reassured, and care providers informed—so everyone stays connected and supported, every day.

How is Sentai different from Alexa?

Sentai is purpose-built for care, customised to you, and connects you to your friends, family and carers. Unlike Alexa, Sentai has natural conversations rather than command-based interactions, understands ambiguity, and includes features specifically designed for care and wellbeing monitoring.

How is Sentai different from a personal call alarm?

Sentai is not an emergency call alarm and is not intended to replace call alarms where they serve the purpose to the user. Sentai can be used either on its own as a voice enabled digital companion or in conjunction with an existing emergency call alarm.

Will you evolve Sentai over time?

We put users at the heart of our product development process. We continually enhance our product based on user and customer feedback, and as new technology that becomes available. We grow our product functionality around our customers’ needs, with the goal to give users more meaningful, personalised and fun experiences every time they interact with Sentai, and care providers and families deeper insight that helps improve the care recipient’s wellbeing and the efficient delivery of care.

Will Sentai listen to everything I say?

No, Sentai only activates when you say "Hi Sentai." It doesn't record or listen to your conversations when not activated. Your privacy is important to us.

Is it difficult to setup?

It only takes minutes to set up using the app or speaking directly to Sentai to connect to Wi-Fi, or mobile internet through an inbuilt SIM card.

How do I set up my Sentai?

Setting up Sentai is simple. Just plug the device into a power outlet, download the app, and follow the guided setup process to connect to your Wi-Fi. The entire process takes just a few minutes, and our support team is available if you need any assistance.

Does Sentai need an internet connection?

Yes. The primary method to install Sentai is using in-home standard WiFi. However, should WiFi not be available there is an in-built eSIM which can be used.

What if there is no Wi-Fi?

No problem! The mobile internet enabled version* of Sentai is designed for users who do not have access to Wi-Fi or their own internet connection at home. Whilst the device still needs to be plugged into a power outlet to function, it comes equipped with its own built-in 4G modem. This allows Sentai to connect to the internet via the 4G mobile network without needing a separate Wi-Fi or broadband connection. It's an ideal option for users who want the full functionality of Sentai but don’t have internet at home. *Estimated availability Q2 2025

What is the 4G Connected Version of Sentai?

The 4G Connected Version is designed for users who do not have access to Wi-Fi. While the device still needs to be plugged into a power outlet, it comes with a built-in 4G modem to connect directly to the internet via the mobile network.

Can I have more than one Sentai in my house?

Currently we would recommend just using one central device in the main room of the home where the user will spend the majority of their time.

Do I need to be tech-savvy to use Sentai?

Not at all. Sentai was designed specifically to be accessible to everyone, regardless of technical ability. There are no complicated instructions or commands to learn - just talk naturally.

Will users have to learn new technology?

No. Sentai includes a single smart speaker containing all it needs in one solution, minimising the need for users to learn anything new. The use of voice activation technology eliminates the requirement for extensive learning, ensuring a user-friendly experience.

How much will users need to learn to use it?

Virtually nothing. Sentai works through natural conversation - users just need to say "Hey Sentai" followed by whatever they want to say. There are no commands to memorize or buttons to press.

How does Sentai use AI and machine learning?

Sentai uses AI to act as an intelligent conversational companion that learns from users over time. AI is used to synthesize speech, convert speech to text and text to speech, create conversational content, and intelligently interpret conversations for outcomes and mood. Sentai intelligently adapts to users’ preferences over time, and uses AI to recognise user preferences, needs and behaviours. We use multiple services to deliver a best-in-class experience, for example Microsoft Azure for Speech-to-Text, and Open AI for content creation and analysis. Sentai is designed to be flexible, provider-agnostic and future-proof. We are continuously evaluating new technologies to enhance its capabilities.

How does it help me stay connected to my family?

Family members can send messages directly to your Sentai speaker through the app. You'll hear the message spoken aloud and can reply simply by talking back. No need to use a phone or computer.

What if I need help when I'm not near the speaker?

Sentai has a built-in movement sensor that can detect if you haven't been active for an unusual amount of time. If this happens, family members will receive a notification through the app so they can check on you.

How does Sentai ensure data privacy?

Privacy is a priority for Sentai. We use personal data within the system to improve our service offering, never sell data to third parties, and only share data with authorised individuals or organisations.

Is the data Sentai collects secure?

Yes! Sentai is a learning device and, as such, uses personal data to improve. Sentai only ever uses this data within the system, will never sell your data to third parties, and will only ever share your data with people or organisations that you have expressly authorised. Sentai abides by all relevant legislation, including the Data Protection Act (1998).

What's included in my subscription?

Your subscription includes the Sentai smart speaker, power adapter, access to the Sentai app for you and your family members, and technical support. There are no hidden costs or additional equipment required.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, with our monthly subscription you can cancel at any time without penalty. For annual subscriptions, you can cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund, or after that period for a prorated refund of the remaining months.

What happens if I cancel?

If you decide to cancel your subscription, we'll send you a prepaid return package for the Sentai hardware. Simply place the device in the package and drop it at your nearest post office.

Is there a contract period?

Our monthly subscription has no minimum contract period. The annual subscription offers better value but commits you for 12 months, though you can cancel within the first 30 days for a full refund.

What if Sentai doesn't work for me?

We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If Sentai doesn't meet your expectations within the first 30 days, you can return it for a full refund. We'll even cover the return shipping costs.

Will my loved one think I'm spying on them?

Sentai is designed to be supportive, not intrusive. The movement sensor simply detects presence, not specific activities, and there are no cameras involved. Many users appreciate the connection Sentai provides.

What if they're resistant to new technology?

Sentai was created specifically for people who may not be comfortable with technology. There's nothing to learn and no complicated interfaces - they simply talk naturally as they would to a friend.

Is it a replacement for in-person visits?

Absolutely not. Sentai is designed to complement and enhance your relationship with your loved one, not replace it. Many families find that Sentai actually improves their in-person visits because they're less focused on checking up and can spend more quality time together.
