At-home care | What is the role of Sentai AI?
WRITTEN BY SENTAI ON 23RD NOVEMBER 2023
Are you looking to help a loved one receive at-home care?
At-home care can sometimes feel difficult to manage, but with technology continuously evolving and improving, there are plenty of ways to help your loved one retain their independence.
Keep reading to discover how our AI solution, Sentai, can help:
The problem
Over the coming years, it’s estimated that our UK population of over 65s will rise to a staggering 13 million. This, combined with the fact that people are living longer, will have an impact on residential and at-home care in the future.
With care home beds in short supply, we need smarter ways to improve and maintain the quality of life for the older generation.
With minimal available placements in care homes already, finding ways to support and deliver at-home care is going to be essential.
That’s where Sentai’s AI technology comes in.
The solution
At Sentai, we believe that the solution to at-home care involves age-tech.
Age-tech is a form of digital technology focused on the needs and wants of the older population. In a broader sense, age-tech could be any type of technology that improves the lives of ageing adults.
Its focus on facilitating independence will enable older adults to receive at-home care, reducing the amount of elderly people necessitating support from a residential facility.
The technology
Alongside age tech, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a crucial role in supporting at-home care for older adults.
By reinventing care, smart digital solutions enable older people to stay independent in their own homes for longer.
This supportive software also benefits informal carers, helping them to balance caring for loved ones whilst working full-time or managing other commitments.
How does it work?
In a world familiar with digital assistants such as Alexa and Siri, smart companions continue to grow in popularity.
At Sentai, we’ve designed our AI technology to target the needs of older people by facilitating at-home care. It combines simple features with a digital assistant and has processes implemented to avoid the use of unnecessary activation words, in favour of simple push buttons.
As well as this, Sentai can be integrated with a companion mobile app, enabling carers to set reminders which support their loved one’s independence — including day-to-day tasks or calendar appointments.
It also provides more critical reminders, such as when it’s time to take medication. Crucially, our technology can alert carers and loved ones when one of these reminders isn’t completed, allowing for fast intervention as and when required.
The benefits and future of AI
So, what are the benefits and future of AI technology such as Sentai?
Over the next five years, it’s estimated that the number of jobs that need skills in AI will rise by 40%. One of the key AI roles needed for the future is community care technician. These technicians are responsible for using AI to detect loneliness in the community.
Loneliness amongst the elderly, especially those living alone, is a major concern for many informal carers, as it can have a detrimental impact on an older person’s enjoyment and quality of life.
The smart companionship offered by Sentai AI can help to combat feelings of loneliness; offering friendly reminders and daily interactions, it can reassure and comfort those receiving at-home care.
Another benefit of our Sentai AI is that it improves the relationship between the caregiver and the person they care for. Since Sentai notifies the caregiver about medication and tasks, interactions no longer need to surround chores. Instead, the calls become the chance to have proper, meaningful conversations about the older person’s life, interests and hobbies.
The key role of Sentai AI is to maximise the independence of older adults. By facilitating at-home, independent-oriented care, our technology has the potential to alleviate pressures faced by care home providers — revolutionising perceptions of ageing in the process.
